Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is the big gorilla of white wine consumption in Australia, dwarfing all others in sales. Because it’s so popular wine fashionistas now wrinkle their noses at Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. It’s white bread.
Dog Point Section 94 sounds like a spin off from Prisoner Cell Block H but it is reconverting the critics. It is one of the best Sauvignon Blancs I’ve tasted. It sails above the sea of cheapo commercial Sauv Blanc.
Dog Point is made by two former Cloudy Bay winemakers and they have surpassed their old shop. Section 94 has vivid lemon sherbet flavours and a backbone of acid flowing through it. The acid gets the saliva working at the finish just like the driest of Rieslings. Every mouthful brings to mind a new range of flavours and the wine has real texture. This drink shows you just how good white wine can be!
Now you might grumble that is costs $10 more than you normally spend on your Sauv Blanc. But what does $10 get you these days?
- The elastic on some Lululemon shorts
- One mouthful of food at Aria Restaurant
- 11 minutes of Trombone Lessons for your child
- An upgrade to a World Class Wine
I’ll let you decide if it’s worth it!
Widely available. C $27. Rating: 4.5/5. Drink and be merry!
