Moss Wood is one of Margaret River’s founding wineries, established in 1969 and instrumental in shaping the region’s reputation along with Vasse Felix, Cullen, Cape Mentelle and Leeuwin Estate.

Since 1979, the Mugford family—led by winemaker Keith Mugford and later joined by Clare Mugford—has guided Moss Wood with an unwavering commitment to quality. Moss Wood is still considered one of the region’s best wineries.

Their long tenure has produced a distinctive house style admired for its consistency, precision and age-worthy structure across all varieties. Their sons are bringing new ideas to the table. The 2024 and 2025 releases continue that legacy but also feature two new additions to the range.

Moss Wood Amy’s Cuvée Blanc 2025
The inaugural release of Amy’s Cuvée Blanc is a 90% Semillon / 10% Sauvignon Blanc blend. This is Semillon at its most appealing—fresh, balanced, and showing subtle tropical and lemongrass notes.
Fermented and lightly aged in old oak, it has attractive palate weight and texture. A delicious, drink-now style.

Moss Wood Amy’s 2024
Amy’s 2024 is Moss Wood’s well-known Cabernet blend: 72% Cabernet Sauvignon with roughly equal parts Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot. It bursts with juicy freshness, offering red and black fruits along with tapenade.
It finishes with satisfying Cabernet markers of tea, tobacco and leather.
Amy’s is the entry point to Moss Wood’s Cabernet range and remains one of Australia’s best under-$50 reds.

Moss Wood Chardonnay 2024
Moss Wood picked their Chardonnay 25 days earlier than average in the warm 2024 vintage—and the decision paid off.
The wine is beautifully balanced: full-bodied and intense without being overpowering.
There is great complexity: wet stone, nectarine, peach, oatmeal and nut. It finishes long with a vibrant citrus line, and the savoury, textured mouthfeel is exemplary.
Chardonnay was first planted at Moss Wood in 1976, with the Mugford family making the wine since 1979. The dry-grown vines were hand-picked and whole-bunch pressed for malo fermentation in 55% new oak, with 18 months in barrel.
This 43rd edition of Moss Wood Chardonnay is a standout.
RRP: $117

Moss Wood Pinot Noir 2024
Pinot Noir has been part of the Moss Wood story since the Pannells planted vines in 1973, long before the variety became fashionable in Australia. This is the 45th consecutive release, making it one of Australia’s longest-running Pinot bottlings.
The 2024 Pinot Noir opens with heady red-fruit aromatics. The palate follows with glossy cherry, cherry-ripe character and strawberry. Richer and more intense than the Autrement Pinot Noir from Karridale, it has depth and vibrancy.
Moss Wood Pinot Noir is age-worthy; the 2023 vintage in particular will develop beautifully over 3–10 years, though it already drinks attractively now.
RRP: $96
Rating: 4.5 ★

Moss Wood Autrement Pinot Noir 2024
A new addition to the Moss Wood range, Autrement Pinot Noir is sourced from Margaret River’s cool southern district of Karridale, 60 km south of the Wilyabrup home vineyard.
The wine is refreshing and lively, showing red and blue fruits with a clay-and-earth finish. It is an earlier-drinking style than the Wilyabrup Pinot.
Higher whole-bunch use and shorter time in oak contribute, but the main differences stem from terroir.
A stylish, top-tier Pinot that will likely become a staple in the Moss Wood lineup.
Like its long-established sibling, it demonstrates that Margaret River Pinot Noir can stand alongside wines from more celebrated Australian and New Zealand regions.
RRP: $70
Rating: 4.5 ★
