About greatwineblog

meAs an old Margaret River winemaker, Erl Happ, once told me “Wine is just a beverage. We shouldn’t take it too seriously!”

And he is right but there’s passion, place, culture and history in a good bottle of wine. Understanding the wine dials up the pleasure.

Despite all the blather winemakers aren’t Mahatma Gandhi or Nelson Mandela! However they do make the world a better place!

I’m a Sydney based Wine Writer who enjoys writing about wine stories and wine makers. I write features for magazines including Your Margaret River Region Magazine, Found, Gourmet Traveller WINE, Halliday Wine Companion Magazine, and Selector. I was nominated as a Finalist for the New Wine Writer of the Year Award 2016 run by the WCA and Gourmet Traveller WINE.

Blog posts attract 2000 readers a week across linkedin, instagram, facebook and twitter. There are extra wine reviews on instagram and facebook.  If you enjoy what you read: like it, follow it, share it, comment with your own views on wine and life.

I quote the recommended retail price (RRP) for wines in Australian dollars. Due to the competitive nature of wine retailing, if you shop around, buy in bulk or join the winery’s club you may find these wines for up to 20% less than their RRP. Happy hunting!

This website is proudly independent. I am not a “paid influencer”. I simply write about wines that I would recommend to others. I am very happy to receive samples and publish reviews of wines that I like. To contact regarding samples please email fergalgleeson@gmail.com in the first instance.

Now hey brother pour the wine!
