Margaret River, WA: In a region that has become one of the world’s great wine producing regions, Flametree Wines has managed to continually stand tall in its 10 year history. Flametree Wines was founded in 2007 and over the last 10 years has established itself in the top echelon of Margaret River wine producers.

By winning the Jimmy Watson Trophy with its very first wine, the 2007 Cabernet Merlot, Flametree established its vision of producing first-rate Australian wines of uncompromising quality and character. Being a finalist again the following year with the 2008 Cabernet Merlot proved Flametree Wines was deserving of this prestigious award.
General Manager and Chief Winemaker Cliff Royle says “The aim at Flametree Wines is to make a range of wines that play to the strengths of the region and consistently deliver a great drinking experience at any price point. Margaret River wines should exhibit the hallmark characters of structure, perfume and elegance that has made this region famous.”

Flametree Wines is fairly unique in that it does not own any vineyards, making the decision to partner with established vineyards throughout the Margaret River region to take advantage of the soil conditions and climates that are unique to each sub-region within Margaret River. This has led to a period of sustained success across a range of varieties. Flametree’s SRS Wallcliffe Chardonnay has proven a consistent performer rating 95 points and higher with James Halliday since 2010. The 2014 vintage was rated 2015 Wine of the Year by Philip Rich, Australian Financial Review, was rated 98 points from and appeared in the Top 10 of his 2015 Top 100 Wines of the World. Flametree Wines has achieved Gold for its current release SRS Wilyabrup Cabernet Sauvignon at the Perth Royal Wine Show 2016, 4 Gold medals for the current release SRS Wallcliffe Chardonnay at the Melbourne, Sydney, Margaret River and Mount Barker Wine Shows and Gold for the current release Sauvignon Blanc Semillon at the Margaret River Wine Show highlighting the consistency. This was further complemented by the 2016 Pinot Rosé winning the Trophy for Best Rose at the 2016 Royal Melbourne Wine Awards.

Flametree Wines will be celebrating 10 successful years as a Margaret River Wine Region producer with an industry and members event in October in Perth. You can find out more at

Phil Hude’s Melbourne wine retail institution turns 20! Melbourne wine icon, Phil Hude first took over the reins at Armadale Cellars in 1997. Now in 2017, Armadale Cellars marks its anniversary with a 20th Birthday Tasting Festival running from May to September 2017. The Festival will celebrate two decades at the Cellars, with museum wine tastings from Phil’s favourite boutique and premium producers.

Since 1997, Phil and the Armadale Cellars crew have welcomed thousands of the wine-curious through the doors to ramble the sweeping and eclectic wine collection, join his famously unpretentious wine courses and taste new vintages with Australia’s most important winemakers. Armadale Cellars, located in Melbourne’s leafy inner east, is one of the city’s few remaining independent, owneroperated wine merchants. Over the years, Phil has weathered the challenges of numerous trends, big retail and economic fluxes but thrived by remaining committed to quality, boutique, artisan producers. Phil has been a longtime supporter of once-young-wineries now recognised as icons and heritage producers like Giaconda, Wild Duck Creek, Paradigm Hill, Ata Rangi, Katnook Estate, Moorilla, Best’s Wines, Shaw & Smith, Moorooduc, Mac Forbes, Tappanappa, Felton Road, Ocean Eight and Henschke. These are among the producers that have supported his loyalty with hard-to-find allocations, digging into the cellars to find some unobtainable wine to commemorate Armadale Cellars’ birthday!

In celebration of this milestone, Phil and the team are very excited to launch the Armadale Cellars 20th Birthday Tasting Festival (running May-September), culminating in the 20th Birthday Party tasting on Saturday, 23 September. This invitation-only, grand tasting will include both current and impossible-to-find museum wines from these iconic wineries, menu by the inimitable Andrew Blake and some incredible door prizes. In fairness to Phil’s numerous loyal customers, entry to this final birthday event will be by Golden Ticket only, with 20 double passes given away to #AC20thBdayFest event guests during the festival.

Phil Hude and the Armadale Cellars team can’t wait to celebrate with their friends and supporters from over the years and present some museum wines normally locked away, each vintage marking a year in the life of Armadale Cellars.
